Evidence-Based Interpretation Answer Key
This worksheet asks students to carefully read a narrative passage and analyze the character’s emotional state and the theme suggested by the author’s language. Students write a short paragraph (4-6 sentences) in which they state a clear claim interpreting Clara’s feelings and the broader idea conveyed through the passage. They must support their claim with at least two pieces of textual evidence and explain how this evidence deepens understanding of the character and theme. The activity strengthens students’ ability to craft interpretive claims, select strong evidence, and articulate how an author’s craft choices shape meaning.
