Price Parade

Price Parade helps students practice decimal comparison and ordering through a realistic store price chart. Students compare dollar amounts, order selected prices from least to greatest or greatest to least, identify the cheapest and most expensive items, and arrange all prices in order. The worksheet strengthens decimal comparison, money notation, place value, ordering, greater-than and less-than reasoning, and real-world number sense. It is especially appropriate for students in grades 4-6 who benefit from connecting decimal skills to shopping and everyday financial situations.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Compare prices: Students decide which dollar amount is greater or smaller.
  • Order monetary values: Learners arrange prices from least to greatest and greatest to least.
  • Identify extremes: Students locate the least and most expensive items.
  • Use money notation: Children read and write decimals correctly as dollars and cents.

Teaching Advantages

  • Makes decimals practical: Students see why comparison matters when shopping and budgeting.
  • Builds financial awareness: Learners practice reading price tags and judging relative cost.
  • Supports parent discussion: Adults can ask, “Which item costs more, and how can you tell from the cents?”
  • Works across settings: The page fits math lessons, homework, tutoring, intervention, or homeschool instruction.
  • Ready to use: No extra materials or preparation are required.

Money gives students a very familiar reason to compare decimals carefully. A price of $3.20 is greater than $3.02 because the tenths place is larger, even though the digits look similar. By ordering the entire store list, students also practice keeping several decimal values organized at once. As learners work, they strengthen place-value fluency, money sense, decimal ordering, comparison accuracy, attention to detail, and confidence. In classroom and homeschool settings, this worksheet reinforces an everyday life skill that supports shopping, budgeting, estimating costs, and making informed choices.
