Decimal Pairs

Decimal Pairs helps students connect common fractions with their equivalent decimal values. Students match each fraction in Column A to the correct decimal in Column B and write the matching letter on the line. The worksheet strengthens fraction-to-decimal conversion, equivalent values, place value, tenths, hundredths, benchmark fractions, and number sense. It is especially useful for students in grades 4-6 who are beginning to see that fractions and decimals are simply two different ways to name the same amount.

Learning Goals

  • Recognize equivalent forms: Students connect values such as 1/2 and 0.50 or 3/4 and 0.75.
  • Use benchmark fractions: Learners build familiarity with common fractional values that appear often in math.
  • Strengthen place value: Students connect fractional parts with tenths and hundredths.
  • Match accurately: Children compare all answer choices and verify that each pair represents the same amount.

How This Helps

  • Builds an important bridge: Students learn that fractions and decimals are not separate topics but related number forms.
  • Supports parent guidance: Adults can ask, “If this fraction were out of 10 or 100, what decimal would it become?”
  • Encourages mental conversion: Repeated matching helps common equivalents become automatic.
  • Works across settings: Use it for classroom review, homework, tutoring, intervention, or homeschool practice.
  • No-prep format: The worksheet is ready to print and use immediately.

Fractions and decimals can look very different even when they represent exactly the same quantity. For example, 3/5 means three parts out of five, but when that value is rewritten in tenths it becomes 6/10, which is 0.60. This worksheet gives students repeated exposure to those relationships so they become easier to recognize without lengthy calculations. As learners complete the page, they strengthen equivalent-number reasoning, decimal place value, fraction fluency, comparison skills, and confidence. In classroom and homeschool settings, this foundation supports later work with percents, ratios, measurement, and mixed fraction-decimal problems.
