Prior Continuity

Students read brief scenarios and imagine what had been happening before the described moment. They then write 1-2 sentences in the past perfect continuous tense for each prompt. This exercise encourages students to use inference skills and consider the unseen events leading up to moments in time. It reinforces the idea that this tense expresses actions that were ongoing before another event occurred. By generating original responses, students deepen conceptual understanding and grammatical fluency.
