Conversion Table

This worksheet combines both directions of decimal-percent conversion in one organized table, asking students to fill in whichever form is missing. Some rows provide a decimal such as 0.06, 0.4, 0.99, 1.3, 2.25, or 0.375 and ask for the percent, while other rows provide percentages such as 15%, 68%, 105%, 175%, 0.5%, or 250% and ask students to write the decimal. That mixed format strengthens decimal-percent equivalence, place value, multiplication and division by 100, number magnitude, chart reading, and flexible conversion skills. It is especially useful for grades 5-6 students who have learned both conversion rules separately and are ready to switch back and forth without being told the same operation every time.

Targeted Skills

  • Convert in Both Directions: Students must decide whether the value needs to move from decimal to percent or from percent to decimal.
  • Recognize Equivalent Values: Learners see matching forms side by side, reinforcing that the amount stays the same even though the notation changes.
  • Work With Values Above and Below One Whole: The table includes tiny values, values near 1, and values greater than 1 or 100%.
  • Read and Complete a Math Table: Students practice organizing information across two clearly labeled columns.

Instructional Benefits

  • Great for Mixed Review: Students cannot fall into a one-rule routine because the conversion direction changes throughout the page.
  • Parent-Friendly Check: Families can ask, “Are we turning this into a percent or into a decimal?” before deciding which direction the decimal point moves.
  • Makes Patterns Easy to Notice: Seeing equivalent pairs together helps students spot relationships such as 1.3 = 130%.
  • Useful for Assessment: Teachers can quickly see whether a student understands both directions equally well.
  • Flexible Practice: The worksheet works well for homework, centers, small groups, test review, intervention, or homeschool lessons.

The real strength of this worksheet is that it asks students to think flexibly instead of repeating one conversion rule from top to bottom. Decimals, percents, place value, equivalent values, multiplication by 100, division by 100, and number sense all work together as students complete the table. For parents, this makes a useful check of understanding: if the child can move comfortably from 0.99 to 99% and from 175% to 1.75, they are beginning to understand the relationship rather than just following a memorized direction. In classroom and homeschool settings, this activity builds stronger fluency and helps prepare students for percent problems involving money, data, probability, and everyday comparisons.
