Complex Connections

Complex Connections teaches students how to join two related sentences into one well-formed complex sentence. Students use the subordinating conjunction shown in parentheses, combine the ideas, and add punctuation where needed. This activity strengthens sentence combining, dependent clauses, independent clauses, subordinating conjunctions, punctuation, sentence fluency, and syntactic variety. It is especially appropriate for students in grades 4-6 who are ready to improve their writing by replacing short, repetitive sentences with smoother and more meaningful connections.
