Meaningful Lines

In this worksheet, students read a poem about a willow tree and choose one line they find especially powerful or meaningful. They must write the line exactly as it appears in the text and explain in 3-5 sentences why it stands out, using evidence from the poem or their own interpretation. Students then connect the chosen line to the poem’s overall message and optionally rewrite it in their own words. This activity strengthens close reading, interpretation of imagery and emotion, and written explanation skills. Learners practice identifying impactful language and understanding how specific lines contribute to a poem’s theme.
