New City Feelings

Students read a short narrative about a girl named Maya adjusting to life in a new city, then write a 4-5 sentence paragraph describing how she feels. They must use at least one piece of text evidence to support their response. This activity strengthens emotional inference and textual analysis by prompting students to interpret character feelings through descriptive details. It also reinforces paragraph writing, evidence-based reasoning, and empathy in reading. Students enhance their ability to explain how characters’ emotions are revealed through actions, dialogue, and setting.
