Chaucer Vocabulary Study

Students read an excerpt from the General Prologue of The Canterbury Tales and identify the meaning of four bolded Middle English words using context clues. In a chart, they record context clues, their best guess meaning, and a modern equivalent. This activity teaches students how to work with historical language and infer meaning through nearby descriptive phrases. It strengthens vocabulary strategies and increases comfort with older forms of English. The worksheet supports language decoding, comprehension, and linguistic comparison.
