Author Critique Response
Students read an excerpt inspired by George Orwell’s Animal Farm and write a short critical response evaluating the effectiveness of the author’s choices. They must consider message, imagery, tone, and point of view while supporting their claims with at least one piece of textual evidence. The activity encourages students to critique how an author communicates ideas about power, corruption, and society. It builds argumentative writing skills by requiring clear reasoning, structured analysis, and use of evidence. Students also deepen their understanding of how allegory and symbolism shape meaning.
