Fill with Signals
Students strengthen their understanding of text organization by filling in missing signal words within short passages. A word bank provides transitions and connectors such as because, unlike, next, and as a result that reveal the intended structure. Each passage focuses on one type of structure-cause/effect, compare/contrast, chronological, problem/solution, or description. By selecting appropriate signals, learners reinforce their grasp of how writers link ideas and guide readers through informational texts. This hands-on task promotes both vocabulary growth and syntactic awareness.
