Effect Signals
Students identify and circle the signal words that indicate cause-and-effect relationships in each sentence. They then sort a list of common signal words-such as “because,” “so,” and “therefore”-into cause and effect categories. This task trains learners to recognize linguistic cues that writers use to show relationships between actions and results. The exercise enhances grammatical awareness and prepares students for analyzing text structure in both fiction and nonfiction passages.
