Spotting Textual Clues

Students read three passages-a persuasive headline, an informational article excerpt about the Amazon rainforest, and an engaging story scene. For each, learners identify two specific textual clues that reveal the author’s purpose. These clues might include examples, statistics, descriptive language, or tone. Students then determine whether the author writes to inform, persuade, or entertain. The worksheet teaches learners how to analyze text features and recognize how authors achieve their goals. By examining purpose across multiple genres, students develop skilled interpretation and multi-text comprehension.
