Same Subject, Different Style

In this worksheet, students explore how different text structures can be used to present information about the same topic-volcanoes. They read three short passages, each written using a distinct structure: cause/effect, chronological, and description. After reading, students answer comprehension and analysis questions that guide them to identify the structure of each passage, explain their reasoning, and consider why an author might select one format over another. Finally, students write a short paragraph on volcanoes using a chosen structure, applying their understanding creatively. This exercise deepens comprehension of nonfiction organization and author’s purpose.
