Paraphrase Analysis

This worksheet asks students to examine pairs of sentences-an original and a possible paraphrase-to determine whether the rewritten version accurately preserves meaning. For each pair, students must analyze vocabulary choices, sentence structure changes, and the overall accuracy of the paraphrase. Learners write Yes or No and explain their reasoning using complete sentences. This deepens critical thinking by requiring students to identify errors such as meaning shifts, omissions, or additions. The activity also strengthens students’ understanding of what makes a paraphrase valid and reinforces careful reading skills. By evaluating paraphrases rather than generating them, students develop a stronger conceptual foundation for producing accurate paraphrases in their own writing.
