Evaluating Support

In this worksheet, students read short paragraphs and evaluate the strength of each argument presented. For every item, learners assign a rating of Strong, Moderate, or Weak and explain their reasoning based on the quality of the supporting details. The paragraphs vary in how well they justify their claims, prompting students to analyze whether reasons are logical, factual, or merely personal opinions. This encourages students to examine the difference between substantive support and weak justification. The activity builds critical thinking and introduces students to evaluating argument strength, a key skill in reading comprehension and persuasive writing. Students also practice explaining their evaluations, reinforcing reflective metacognition.
