Predicting the Weather Report of Words

Students become “output forecasters,” predicting the tone, structure, and key details of an AI response based solely on a prompt’s wording. Each prompt-ranging from a news report to a historical speech to a diary entry-signals a different writing format, and students must analyze those signals to forecast what the AI’s answer will look and sound like. Learners explain their reasoning using text-based evidence and structural clues, strengthening their understanding of how prompt language influences output types. This activity builds genre awareness, tone prediction, and analytical reasoning.
