Rock Type Comparison

This worksheet asks students to compare and contrast igneous and sedimentary rocks using a list of descriptions. Learners sort each statement into the correct column-Igneous, Sedimentary, or Both-by analyzing formation clues such as origin, presence of fossils, layering, and mineral content. Once sorted, students identify at least three similarities and three differences between the two rock types using the chart. This activity promotes deeper understanding of rock characteristics and the processes that shape them. It also strengthens classification, critical thinking, and comparative reasoning. Students develop scientific vocabulary and gain confidence in distinguishing between Earth materials.
