Strong or Weak

Students read eight statements describing government actions and decide whether each one shows a weak national government or a strong one. This helps them compare the limited powers of the Articles of Confederation with the stronger federal government created later. By examining examples of trade, leadership, taxation, and dispute resolution, students learn to identify the strengths and weaknesses of national authority. The activity improves classification skills and builds understanding of why early Americans eventually replaced the Articles. Learners develop clearer insight into effective governance.
