See-It, Build-It, Solve-It

This one is a really nice bridge between guided support and independence. Your child is still using the boxes, but at this point, they’re starting to rely on them a little differently. Instead of needing every single square to figure it out, they may begin to confirm what they already think the answer is. That’s a subtle but really important shift.

You might notice them saying the answer first and then filling in the boxes to check-and that’s a great sign. It means the understanding is starting to move from their hands into their thinking.

Skills Being Developed

  • Mental Prediction – Anticipating the answer before building it.
  • Verification Strategies – Using the boxes to check their thinking.
  • Number Confidence – Feeling more secure with basic addition.
  • Flexible Thinking – Moving between visual and mental strategies.

Why This Matters

  • Builds Independence – Your child starts to trust their own thinking.
  • Encourages Self-Checking – Reinforces accuracy through confirmation.
  • Supports Mental Math Growth – Moves beyond relying only on visuals.
  • Strengthens Number Sense – Numbers become more familiar and predictable.

This is one of those worksheets where you’ll really start to hear the difference in how your child talks about math. Instead of counting every time, they may say, “I think it’s 8… let me check.” That “let me check” mindset is exactly what we want-it shows they’re thinking, not guessing.
