Basics on Prompt Length

In this worksheet, students learn the core difference between short AI prompts and long AI prompts by comparing sample instructions and analyzing how they change AI outputs. Students read explanations, examine two example prompts about writing a story, and explore how prompt length affects freedom, structure, and predictability in AI responses. They then answer a set of open-ended questions requiring them to define key terms, explain surprising results from short prompts, and reflect on the advantages of detailed instructions. The activity develops students’ ability to think critically about how AI interprets different types of input and how the amount of detail controls the outcome. By responding to the comprehension questions, learners practice reading analysis, reasoning, and digital-literacy skills that help them use AI more intentionally.
