Leaders’ Perspectives

Students read two document excerpts-one from Governor Phips and one from Cotton Mather-and answer questions requiring text evidence. They identify problems, motivations, and the authors’ differing views on how the trials should proceed. The worksheet also includes a synthesis question asking students to compare the two perspectives. This promotes analytical thinking and deeper understanding of leadership roles during the trials. Students develop skills in evaluating historical arguments and interpreting primary-source viewpoints.
