Diary vs. News Rewrite
Students read a neutral narrative scene about a community recovering from storm damage. They then rewrite the passage twice: once as a diary entry with a personal, emotional voice, and once as a news report with a factual, objective tone. This activity teaches students how point of view and tone drastically change the delivery of information. By shifting style and wording to match each format, learners practice adapting narrative voice for specific purposes. The exercise strengthens awareness of emotional expression in writing and reinforces the distinction between subjective and objective narration.
