Action Add-On Answer Key

This worksheet asks students to enhance flat dialogue by adding simple action beats that show what characters are doing while they speak. Each pair or trio of dialogue lines is presented without movement, and students rewrite them by incorporating purposeful actions that reveal emotion, attitude, or setting. By doing so, students learn that action beats support pacing, characterization, and readability. This activity helps writers diversify dialogue structures and avoid overuse of dialogue tags like “said.” It builds awareness of how small physical details make scenes more dynamic and realistic.
