Literary Symbols

This worksheet focuses on interpreting three major symbols in the play: Seeds, Stockings, and the Flute. Students first describe each symbol literally, then explain its deeper meaning within the play. They must also provide a relevant quote or scene where the symbol appears and analyze how the symbol connects to the play’s themes, such as failure, hope, regret, or memory. This activity helps students break down how everyday objects gain symbolic significance in drama. It builds skills in interpreting figurative meaning and recognizing how symbols reinforce character struggles and thematic elements.
