AI/Human Task Sorting

This worksheet is designed for students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 to build understanding of how artificial intelligence and humans differ in their strengths and abilities. Students examine a variety of everyday and complex tasks-such as storytelling, problem solving, recognizing faces, and using humor-and classify each as best handled by AI, humans, or both. By writing complete explanations for each choice, learners strengthen reasoning, comparison skills, and clear written communication while developing a realistic view of what AI can and cannot do.

Learning Goals

  • Classification & Comparison (Grades 4-6) – Students sort tasks based on whether they are strengths of AI, humans, or both.
  • Explaining Reasoning in Writing – Learners write complete sentences that justify their classifications clearly.
  • Understanding AI Capabilities – Students identify common tasks AI performs well and where human thinking is stronger.
  • Human Skills & Judgment – Learners recognize qualities such as creativity, emotion, humor, and empathy.

Instructional Benefits

  • Teacher-Created Resource – Designed by educators to support ELA writing, critical thinking, and technology literacy standards.
  • Clear, Engaging Structure – Sorting tasks makes abstract ideas about AI and humans concrete and accessible.
  • Flexible Classroom Use – Works well for independent work, discussion starters, centers, or homework.
  • Supports Diverse Learners – Combines categorization with short written explanations for balanced skill practice.
  • Technology & SEL Integration – Encourages thoughtful discussion about human qualities alongside AI abilities.

This printable worksheet helps students develop clear explanations, logical reasoning, and a balanced understanding of artificial intelligence. Learners practice comparing capabilities, defending their ideas in writing, and reflecting on what makes humans unique. Ideal for classroom or homeschool use, this no-prep activity strengthens writing, critical thinking, and responsible understanding of AI in everyday life.
