Twenty-Two Twist Maze

This one is deceptively challenging in a really good way. At first glance, it looks repetitive-just two number 2 shapes-but that repetition actually increases the demand. Students have to move through one curved structure and then immediately re-engage and do it again with the same level of control. What’s interesting here is whether they carry over their control from the first section into the second, or whether their precision starts to fade. I’d use this with Kindergarten and early Grade 1 students who are working on consistency.

Targeted Skills

  • Repetition with Control – Maintaining accuracy across repeated shapes.
  • Curved Path Mastery – Strengthening smooth directional movement.
  • Motor Endurance – Sustaining effort through multiple sections.
  • Visual Continuity – Staying oriented as the path continues.

Instructional Support

  • Great for Building Consistency – Reinforces doing the same thing well twice.
  • Strong Observation Tool – You can clearly see where control drops off.
  • Encourages Self-Awareness – Students begin to notice differences in their own work.
  • Supports Writing Patterns – Similar to repeating strokes in letters.

This is one of those worksheets where the second half tells you everything. Many students will do well on the first “2” and then lose a bit of control on the second. That’s not a failure-it’s insight. It shows where endurance and consistency still need support. And when they start maintaining that same level across both sections, that’s a big developmental win.
