Tone Flip Writing

Students rewrite the same event three times, each with a different tone: silly, sad, and angry. This task teaches students how tone drastically alters the mood of a scene even when the event stays unchanged. By adjusting voice, vocabulary, and pacing, students explore how writers express emotional shifts through stylistic choices. The repeated rewriting process deepens understanding of author craft and expressive writing. This activity also supports creativity and encourages deliberate experimentation with narrative techniques.
